Project Week 11: Beta

Image
Beta This Week was by far the toughest. Now that my game is complete i need to make a menu screen. This was the hardest for me to achieve because most tutorials are for an older version of unity. Luckily I found a five minute tutorial on how to make my menu screen, my bigest issues was the C# script. I had to add a script stement that i forgot to add. after that was my issue with messing up a file in my inspector. After all that was complete i had a fully functional game with a working home screen. to add a little extra i had searched for some music in the background and found a cyberpunk gaming soundtrack that was royalty free. I found a tutorial to follow and now my game has sound aswell. My Menu

Project week 9: Alpha

Image
Alpha I have further worked on my game this week. I fixed my issue with my obstacles by adding a mesh collider to the obstacles and a box collider to my floor panel. this week I wanted to focus on having the camera follow the camera and have my vehicle move left and right. I used Brakeys youtube videos to help me with the controls and looked at some past unity tutorial. I had a big issue making the camera follow my camera but in the end, I found the issue, there was an error in my code. after fixing those errors my game is playable with no issues.

Project Week 8: Project Playable

Image
Project Playable.  This Week I made real progress with my game. I started out with the Atmosphere I went to the asset store and downloaded some backgrounds and ships. I finally went with what is in my picture below, I have made my spaceship move forward with no lagging, I gave it some mass through a rigid body.  I have created a long-lasting road and gave it some texture through a skin I found in the asset store. My laptop is having issues screenshotting so I took photos of my progress through my phone. I have come to face one issue, The weight of my obstacles makes them collapse through thee floor  First Playable

Project week 6: GDD

Image
Game Design Document  I have created my GDD this week, after looking at all my options I have decided to create it on Powerpoint. I think it is the most efficient way to make my GDD. After this process, I can see a clear view of my game. All the work I have been doing has been put into one single and cleaned-up space. GGD

Project week 5: Vision Statement

Image
Vision Statement Since I began my research in game development, game developing YouTubers and completing my Unity tutorials I have decided to go back to the drawing board.  There are few unity tutorials and videos out there for beginners like I am.  There are even fewer tutorials that follow all the software updates that Unity has every couple of months. So I have decided to aim for a more achievable goal. I am going to be making an obstacle race game. I find this to be a more realistic aim than my previous firefly game idea. It is way more beginner friendly and I can be certain to complete it in the time given.  I have been looking at the Unity asset store and have been gaining inspiration there. I would like to go for a steampunk sci-fi, futuristic game. Maybe set in the future. It could be on a planet like Venus or Mars. The player would be some sort of spaceship and the aim would avoid some form of predator or monster or hill/terrain. I can use some assets from ...

Project Week 7: Prototype

Image
Prototype Today I am starting the coding of my game. First, I looked around youtube for tutorials I have changed my idea multiple times but finally decided on an Obstacle game. Unity I made my prototype I made a player using this tutorial. This Youtuber taught m ]e how to make my characters move from left to right. and at a constant speed, I need this to dodge the obstacles I am going to make. I attempted to create lasers for the obstacle but realized it was too advanced for my skill set. I have been finding it difficult to work the navigations on unity. It truly is like a foreign language. I have set ideas though and will strive to achieve them. I am going to focus on the mechanics of my player for now.  Through the trials and errors I have made my first prototype

Project Week 4: Game Idea Research

Image
Game Idea Research For my game, I have chosen to focus on my firefly idea. As a recap, the firefly idea is a game where the aim of the game is to fill a map by exploring a dark location with only a fireflies light to illuminate your surroundings. Upon thinking on it further I have thought up some more ideas to develop on the game. The aim of the game is, as we know, to fill a map. I needed to know if that was possible for a beginner programmer. I have already found a mini-map to watch my motion. I found a video showing how to make a  map showing the location  here . I then researched how to make a firefly. Unfortunatly I could only find a video tutorial on  how to make multiple fireflies  not just one. I did however find  this video  onhow to make an immersive light which I hope will do the trick. video game spider With the game objective made all that was needed was an antagonist or some way to lose the game. since the area will be dark I was hoping...

Project week 3: Game Brainstorming

Image
Gamestorming This week was particularly difficult to complete. As I've said in other blog posts, I'm not that equated to games. So I had to do some research just to see what was possible with Unity .  This really helped with the brainstorming process, having an idea of what was possible gave me a clear view of what I might base my project on.  Idea One, My first idea is to create an escape room.  An escape room is basically a game where you try to escape a room or any space through clues. You usually have to complete a number of tasks to escape. I searched if that was possible through Unity and found this video on Youtube. I brainstormed some ideas such as basing my rooms in a shopping centre closed for the night. I feel that would give me flexibility with themes for the rooms. I could have a room in a fitness shop with sport themed tasks. I could then have a room in the canteen with food based tasks.  Idea two, My second idea would be more aesthetic focused. A g...
